Brief Prologue

My wife, a US Citizen, and I separated in March 2021 after almost 14 years of being a couple. She left the island of Cyprus (where we used to live together) and moved back to the States. For a number of months we didn't have any contact other than a random e-mail, here and there. In November 2021 I tried to get in touch with her looking for a final decision, a kind of closure to our relationship. I was shocked to find out that a month earlier she had suffered two strokes that caused her left hemiplegia (paralysis of the left side) and short term memory problems. It is questionable whether the strokes caused any further cognitive impairment since the memory problem can justify many of her actions (or non-actions).

I considered it a duty of mine to try to help her any way I could (even If I lived 6000 miles away). For the following 9 months I spent almost 14 hours a day online with her, keeping her company and trying to manage her "business" (a combination of dealing with her finances, her medicines, her doctor appointments, her grocery needs, etc. Almost anything she couldn't do herself mainly because of her inability to type properly and because of her memory problems.)

During the first 6 weeks (from mid-November to December 30, 2021) she was a resident of Tiffany Hall Nursing and Rehab Center, a godforsaken place where the majority of the CNAs behaved in the worst manner possible without any repercussions. I withnessed CNAs walking in her room after a call of my wife's, telling her "What now?" when she didn't bother them earlier because she was afraid of them!

By the end of December we've been notified by the administration of the facility that we would have to leave since the insurance wasn't paying any more. My wife's return to her home (the one she lived prior to the strokes) was out of the question since the apartment is on the second floor and one needs to climb a stair to get to it. So the only viable option was a living facility, actually an Assisted Living Facility where by wife being half paralyzed would get the assistance she needed.

And that's where the saga began.......
